The government retracted a decision to recruit 45 mid-level bureaucrats through lateral entry following opposition criticism that it bypassed caste quotas. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that Prime Minister Modi pledged to incorporate reservations for marginalized communities in future lateral hires, aiming to uphold social justice and fair representation in government positions
